For me the best one is a Web Visualization Tool available directly from Check Point (in the Utilities section on their website). Works very well on Windows (all you need is access to SmartCenter) and other platforms.

You also could install SmartPortal on the SmartCenter and give them a read-only access account. I'm not sure if this will require additional licensing, though. If so, you could get an eval license from your reseller, install it and then deactivate it before the eval is up.

Just remember to set an entry in the hosts.allow file per the docs so only certain IP addresses have access to the login page.

Unfortunately, SmartPortal does require a license. But it is very useful tool, as you have said.

With Internet explorer 6 or 7 just click on the one called index.xml.
It should attempt to open the rulebase file using the embedded xml stuff.
