That is NOT true. You can use "snapshot" while the firewall is running. See below: [Expert@GW2]# snapshot Choose one of the following: ------------------------------------------------------------------ [L] Create new local Snapshot Image [T] Create new Snapshot Image on TFTP server [S] Create new Snapshot Image on SCP server [R] Remove local Snapshot Image [Q] Quit ------------------------------------------------------------------ Your choice: L Enter new Snapshot Image filename [snapshot_16_12_2007_15_30]: Are you sure you want to proceed? yes Creating the Snapshot Image. This can take up to 10 minutes... -

The snapshot application is a SecurePlatform-only feature. It will perform a cpstop during the snapshot process (amusingly, it only tells you this *after* you've confirmed you want to proceed....). It can be run as part of the boot process, or from the command line.

When I ran a Snapshot on my R61, I was told AFTER starting the process that: "Creating the Snapshot Image. This can take up to 20 minutes... Note that all Check Point products will be stopped and re-started after the snapshot completes." Something to bear in mind - you can do the snapshot, but CP services will restart...
