Default Backup of NG with AI (R55W) Build 346

I would like to know if anyone has a guide to backing up the firewall so that I can recover it to a DR site? I have inherited this after a collegue was sacked and I have no experience with firewall's.

hi sambols,

There is a tool (upgrade_export) you can use to export the entire checkpoint configuration which can then be imported onto a DR machine.

Some things to consider
1) is your installation standalone (gateway and management on one box) or distributed (gateway on one and management on another).

The upgrade_export utility is run from your management server

2) When you import your configuration (upgrade_import) ensure your machine has the same host name, domain name and ip address.

3) The upgrade_export utility doesn't backup interface configuration, routes or anything the OS handles - it is only check point, so you'll need to ensure you have that info also.

I would suggest playing with this in virtual machines to give you some experience and a level of comfort with the process.
