Default Error: "failed to read local config info"

Hello,

I have a customer with a fresh R60 HFA04 installation (SPLAT), the configuration was done from scratch (not importing from any other installation) and everything works ok, but it has not been possible to use upgrade_export for backup purposes as an error is coming up.
After running the proper command, it starts ok, but after the message that says it is "copying files to a temp folder", the error "failed to read local configuration info" comes up and process stops.
I have tried in multiple ocassions, after restarting CP services and even after rebooting the entire machine with no luck. Also tried with the latest version of the upgrade utils downloaded from the CP website with same results.
I still have not found that error documented in the SecureKnowledge.

Any help with this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Did you have all of the gui clients closed first, Also have you verified the issue is not related to drive space?

Thanks for your reply.

Actually checking all GUIs are closed is always my first check, somebody also suggested to check disk space, but this is a brand new machine and no logs were imported from the old SmartCenter, anyway I did a quick df -k and I can assure you there is plenty available space.

Now, since I made this post, I have found some other stuff, although the problem remains.
Doing upgrade_export -d to get debug info, one of the last messages I see says it was "unable to get the local machine IP address", so I checked the SCS object in the Dashboard and even when the correct IP shows in the topology tab, if I click on "get", it fails to gather the IP "because there is no SNMP daemon", which makes no sense to me (this works when I do it with the gateways), then I checked with sysconfig and everything is ok regarding IP and hostname, I also checked the /etc/hosts file and it did not show the local machine (SCS) IP and hostname, so I edited it manually and restarted services, but the problem remains. Finally I checked the ICA, but seems like the hostname was ok when it was initialized as the correct one shows in the certificate.

At this point I'm really lost with this issue, I have found no usefull documentation in the SK and no one has been able to tell me how to get this mess resolved.

If any one here could give me a hand, I would really appreciate it.

Regards

On SPLAT you can select your management ip address via sysconfig.
This ip address will be used to resolve your hostname by putting it in the /etc/hosts file. Try this (sysconfig) instead of editing the hosts file manually.

Thanks for your reply Robby,

Actually I setup the hostname via sysconfig from the very beginning and still it was not automatically added to the hosts file.
Recently I double-checked entering again on sysconfig and asking to show current hostname, it was correct, but still I had to add the corresponding info on the hosts file because it was not showing.

So, I believe there is in fact something wrong here, most likely from the very beginning, as sysconfig seemed not to do what it was supposed to.

Setting the hostname is one thing.
But when you go into the "interface" submenu of sysconfig you can select an option "mark as management ip" (I don't know the exact location/name, I'm doing this off the top of my head). This will add the entry in the hosts file.

Thanks Robby,

Now I see what you are talking about, I guess you are referring to:

sysconfig>network connections>select management connection

I checked for that on a virtual machine I have with SPLAT but have not checked that on my customer's SmartCenter at this point.
To be honest I had seen that option in the past but have never had to actually change it, I guess usually when you have a single interface on your SmartCenter it gets assigned automatically, although that is the case with my customer's SCS and it did not seem to happen that way.

On any case I will for sure check on that, thanks a lot for you help. I'll let you know if that solves the issue.

Regards
