Default Difference Between Backup and upgrade_export commands

Hi

I was wondering what is the difference between the backup files generated by backup and upgrade_export commands? (In terms of what is included in the backup when you run backup command and run upgrade_export)

Any insight is highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Vikas

backup on SPLAT includes the OS-level config - e.g. interfaces, routing, etc. upgrade_export only covers Check Point config.

So it is a best practice to backup using both tools in case we have a server failure or something similar?

Is there anything else we should be backing up on regular basis?

Yeah thats all, upgrade_export does not cover log backup I recall so make sure you add them with the SPLAT backup.

Hi

Can someone confirm whether option 9 (Export Setup) in the sysconfig tool on my smartcenter server, provides the same output as upgrade_export?

Thanks

Yes it does.
To tweak parameters (if needed) open file /bin/sysconfig_start and look for upgrade_export (on your own risk ofcourse :))
