With the C6 it states 4 10/100 ports and 4 10/100/1000 ports. Are all 8 ports usable at any given time?

Yes :)
the first port is the Managment port (but this is a normal port you can work with this)

I am not using the first interface which is management port and have disabled it since I am using console port if needed. I am using eth8 for sync cross over cable. All other 6 interfaces are being used.

Be sure to upgrade to the latest COS if you have C6 and to HFA_05 otherwise you will have issues with the interfaces. There is also an upgraded driver available called sk98lin.

Use CoS 6.0.0.2 at the very least - the issues wth the driver can be quite severe if you hit them. 6.0.0.3 is the latest GA.
