Default Best method to handle arp in Solaris with ClusterXL

Hi Folks,

I'm making enquires on the best method to handle arp in Solaris with ClusterXL.

With our old configuration with FP3 we did manual arp entires for all translated objects. Where need be we had 'virtual' IPs (used in VPN configurations etc) which had arps bound to a mac.

We have two Sun boxes running R65 with clusterXL (HA) on Solaris 10 OS, its a fairly new configuration, we utilising automatic proxy arping. In the event of these 'virtual' IPs which are bound to a mac, it would suggest we would need to keep those as a manual process. Our problem with this is we put manual arps on the two cluster nodes both will try and handle the traffic.

Is there a way of the arp tables being activated / deactivated on failover? Or is there a better method of handling the packets?

Use routing instead of trusting ARP broadcasts to route packets. As long as you can insert routes on the upstream router, this is a good failsafe and generally more reliable than just relying on Proxy ARP.
