| Hello, I have a VPN-1 Edge X ADSL with embedded NGX v. 7.0.48x. I am using this to segment my intenet traffic (browsing, ftp, etc.) from my normal WAN\Intranet traffic. My ISP is AT&T\Bellsouth and I have static ip on the business class ADSL service they provide. The problem I'm having is getting the Edge device set to use the static address. Everytime I reset the device it grabs a different address which is not one of the static addresses I have. I admit that I am not very familiar with this deivce and I am not the one who set it up originally, so I'm sure it's something simple that I am missing. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to ensure that the device is set to use the static address given me? Where do I go, in the setup, to configure this? Thanks. -Ewike |

| Connect to the web interface http://<gw ip>/ and log in, navigate to the "Network" menu, the default tab is "Internet" click on Edit for the primary. Then make sure that "Obtain IP address automatically" is unchecked & that your static IP is listed properly. __________________ Its all in the documentation. |

| Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I don't have an option for setting the ip address. Navigating to the screen you described yields the following: Internet Setup (Primary)
ADSL Link Settings
PPP Settings
Name Servers
Traffic Shaper
Advanced
High Availability
Dead Connection Detection
Do you know of anywhere else I should be looking? Thanks for all the help -Ewike |

| No ADSL device can set a static IP address as this one is delivered by your ISP via PPPoE. So if you receive different IP addresses from your ISP, then it's an ISP issue. To set static IP addresses on your Edge appliance, use the DMZ/WAN2 port. This will, however, not work with ADSL as it's meant to connect to routers over a network connection and not over a DSL line. |

| OK, that makes sense. Thanks. Now I've just got to find out from Bellsouth why the static address is not being assigned. The problem there is that as soon as I tell their support staff that I am NOT using Bellsouth equipment, they refuse to discuss the matter any further. Thanks again, -Ewike |

| Then put Bellsouth's DSL modem on their DSL line. Configure the DSL modem to function as a DSL router. That means it will just PPPoE passthrough any login credentials it receives from your Edge. Connect the DMZ/WAN2 port to your Bellsouth DSL router and configure the DSL login credentials on your Edge. Connection type is PPPoE. Your Edge will then send the DSL login credentials to your Bellsouth DSL router, this one routes it further to Bellsouth and the external IP address is routed back onto your Edge. Your Bellsouth DSL router just functions as a dumb routing device that has no IP address information itself. This way you can get support by Bellsouth. |
