We manage around 100 Edge boxes which are all using ADSL routers to pass a public IP address through to the VPN. We have used Westell routers until now with great success but they pulled out of the UK last year and the stocks we purchased then are almost exhausted. I've tried the new boxes with integrated ADSL modems but have had some issues with line stability so would really like to find an alternative to the Westell unit. Which routers does anyone else use that have proved stable and reliable? I'd rather pass a fixed public IP address through than introduce NAT into our solution. Thanks

Hello, the line stability problem is known to Check Point and will be fixed in a newer firmware version (2.0.11 most likely) for the integrated DSL modem. There is a workaround that will help you in the meantime to get around the line instability. On your VPN-1 Edge appliance go to "Setup > Tools > Command". Type this line in: set port adsl auto-sra mode disable Glad to be of service, Danny Trommer CCSA/CCSE/CCSE+

@chillyjim The stability problem occured in the way that VPN-1 Edge ADSL appliances lost their ADSL connection exactly after 1hour 16min. Other symptoms are known. The log file reports a loss of the DSL sync connection and the Edge appliance restarts the DSL line. With older firmware Edges might sometimes reboot randomly. Upgrade to firmware 7.0.33a for ADSL and DSL modem firmware SW2.0.6ab_pri.firm @melipla VPN-1 Edge ADSL/Industrial appliances require another firmware than regular VPN-1 Edge appliances. The most recent version currently is 7.0.33a. The libsw libraries you mentioned are only used on the SmartCenter Server for compilation of the firewall policy to the EdgeConnector. The EdgeConnector provides the compiled policies to the Edge appliances. The libsw libraries are only required if you manage your Edge appliances centrally. It's recommended to use the libsw version that equals your firmware installed on the Edge appliances. For ADSL models there is also a firmware for the integrated DSL modem available. The most recent version is 2.0.6a. Use the workaround provided above to improve line stability. Best regards, Danny Trommer CCSA/CCSE/CCSE+

Danny I've actually been working with Sofaware directly on this issue for the best part of a year. The current version of modem firmware we are testing is 2.08 but even though it's much better than the released 2.06 build, there are still some unexplained connection losses on this version. The modem is actually provided by Conexiant and they are very much involved in finding a fix for this as well. I have to say that the guys at Sofaware have been excellent, but the problem is still not 100% resolved and hence my question. If they fix this so it is as stable and as fast as the connection we get with external modems then this will obviously be the ideal answer. Trevor

anybody try upgrading the firmware for the adsl modem on the xg32-adsl device? I've upgraded libsw on mgnmt and device to 7.0.39, then tried to upgrade modem firmware to SW2.0.6ab_pri.firm, which i got from CP. But it fails every time: INTERNAL ERROR... nothing more??? AL

Thanks to all so far for your posts. I've had loads of problems with the ADSL modems in an Edge box with PPPoATM. Does anyone know how to get hold of any debugging with respect to the ADSL modem initialization? Cheers Greg
