Default SPLAT backup and restore - a challenging question

Just wondering if any one notices the size of their SPLAT backup files lately ?
On mine, it's a few hundred megabytes per backup file i.e. every time I run the backup command to back up to a local file on the Smartserver, it's around 400 MB worth of disk space !
This is just too much, if you have to do several of these per week !

So, would anyone know the bare minimum files that I need to back up for the Policy database only ?

(I don't need to back up logs or user accounts or routes or anything like that - just the policy database)

Your backup on the SMC is probably including logs - configure it to skip the logs and you'll save a bit of space. Also do a tar tzvf on the backup file, check it hasn't included some large patch file, or core file that's been dumped in one of the directories being backed up. Also check your old DB revisions.

This is almost always because of Database Revisions - clear those up, and your backup files should drop dramatically.
