| Hi, I am trying to do some hardware monitoring on a SPLAT running R62 on a ML350 G5. I found a SR article about this: sk31030 which directed me to the OPSEC partners page: OPSEC: OPSEC Partners There you will find a pdf which is horribly outdated. [Expert@firewall]# /etc/init.d/hpasm status /lib/modules/2.4.21-21cpsmp/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si_drv.o: /lib/modules/2.4.21-21cpsmp/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si_drv.o: No such file or directory sed: can't read /etc/init.d/ipmi: No such file or directory Using standard Linux IPMI device driver and hpasm-lite I am using this on a ML350 G5 and the IPMI doesn't seem to work (isn't in that document). There is something in it about additional lib files for the Storage Agents. I tried to follow that but there is something wrong in that paragraph. They seem to copy a file to itself in usr/lib. Anyway a simple hpasmcli -s "show fans" doesn't work. I read on this forum that you can buy Dells with some preconfigured monitoring. Does HP have this? How are you guys monitoring the hardware of these important servers? It's a shame HP isn't doing more to get this supported. TIA, JD. |

| Same here! Hardware is a HP DL380 G5 server, with Provider-1 R65 installed. I arrive at this error during installation (hpasm configure): Starting HP Server Management Drivers and Agents, please wait ... /lib/modules/2.4.21-21cpsmp/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si_drv.o: /lib/modules/2.4.21-21cpsmp/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si_drv.o: No such file or directory sed: can't read /etc/init.d/ipmi: No such file or directory packages used: hpasm-7.7.0-115.rhel3.i386.rpm cmanic-7.7.0-5.rhel3.linux.rpm (this needs hpasm-7.7.0-X) compat-libstdc++-8-3.3.4.2.i386.rpm The additional lib files for the Storage Agents procedure is correct, read the command carefully and you will see that the libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so file that is created is copied from the usr/lib folder in the current working directory (no leading slash) to the /usr/lib directory! | On the HP software download section I found a rpm with IPMI drivers. Unfortunally it does not install correctly: rpm -ivh hp-OpenIPMI-7.6.0-104.rhel3.i386.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] 1:hp-OpenIPMI ########################################### [100%] This kernel requires a rebuild. Seeking source files The file: /lib/modules/2.4.21-21cpsmp/source/include/linux/ipmi.h does not exist. This is a strong indication that the necessary Linux Kernel Development packages are not installed. Unknown Linux Distribution - No Source to build Please read the Licence Agreement for this software at /opt/hp/hp-OpenIPMI/COPYING and /opt/hp/hp-OpenIPMI/hp-OpenIPMI.license By not removing this package, you are accepting the terms of the included licenses. The man page, hp-OpenIPMI(4), describes how enable and use the hp-OpenIPMI device drivers. |

| I opened a support SR for this problem, as I thought CheckPoint would give support for OPSEC related problems like this (and they do state HPASM package is supported on R60A and onwards...). The answer was very short, its not supported :( They gave me advise to create a RFE request for this problem. Last edited by auroranl; 2007-09-11 at 02:24. |

| Whenever you attempt to run another product other then Check Point Software on SPLAT then you are likely to run into an issue as Check Point strip so much out of the Linux. ISS Managed Services apparently run some monitoring tools, but wether they support that themselves or if Check Point will provide support to them I don't know. In general though as an end user rule, install SPLAT from CD, don't expect anything other then Check Point software to run on it. |
