Default Ways to backup SPLAT

I'm wondering the differences between the ways to backup SPLAT. As far as I know there is the backup and snapshot commands and backing up through the GUI. What are the differences between these three methods?

I am currently using the GUI and SCP but want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Thanks,
True

i got the same question too.

I never try it before, i'm going to perform smartcenter hardware migration. The new hardware is different from the old one.

How’s the steps to migrate all checkpoint configuration include the SIC ?

many thanks.

Hi,

when you backup splat you can modify following file if you have files in /root like scripts or ssh-keys (root/.ssh), which will not be backuped:

/var/CPbackup/schemes/system_configuration.cpbak

I tested a complete system backup for Splat R60 HFA4 (management) and R61 HFA1 (filter) and all works pretty fine. On both machines I use the web-GUI for backup schedule.

When you restore your backupfile put this in /var/CPbackup/backups, then start "restore", select local backup file and then the right file.

Hi,

Backup : Both CheckPoint and hardware (like network) configuration.

Snapshot : Some kind of a ghost of your SPLAT. Reverting a Snapshot erases everything on the SPLAT.

I'm currently using backup command + scp (scheduled bash script via crontab). Every HFA, i do a snapshot before and after.

Mickael.

FYI you can (in R60 at least) configure the "backup" command to schedule a backup and scp the end result to a different server.

Are there any tools within splat, apart from find/cpio, that can be used to create full/incremental backups, so that a replacement system can be created by:-
1) Create vanilla system from media
2) Restoring backup set(s).

I don't like the idea that with the internal backup/restore and upgrade_export/import utilities, you have to make sure that all HFA's installed on the original system have to be installed on the clone prior to running the restore. I just want the restore operation to deliver a copy of the working.

I"m having endless problems getting either the gui or the command line to backup to a scp server. See Backup to SCP server

Is anyone actually using this successfully?
