Default Which platform - SPLAT or NOKIA?

Hi all,

Apologies for the probable mis-posting of this. I'm not too sure where this should go. Anyway..

I've been a Nokia user for many years, but am seeing good things about SPLAT. Should I be looking at a platform change?

I like the ease and speed of set-up of SPLAT and the more generic hardware (if I put it on a Proliant DL360 or similar) should things go wrong, but I have concerns about throughput and things like that.

I'm aware that (using a consistent example) the DL360 can quite happliy push gigabit NIC's, and should have no problem with basic traffic, but what about VPN encryption? I like the hardware VPN acceleration that I can get for the Nokias. Can I get this (or do I even need it) for the SPLAT platform?

I want to start making moderate/heavy use of SecureClient over 802.11a,b,g wireless, and will I swamp the SPLAT box? (for example 50 concurrent users and not all sharing the same contended airwave - so real throughput increases). Will the encryption overhead on the CPU cause problems? Or am I worrying over nothing?

Anyway, again, apologies for the probable mis-posting of this and the open ended type of question. Any feedback on any of the points would be greatly appreciated.

Regards all, and have a great day!

Here is some ideas in early post benefit of using nokia as compared to SPLAT

Also Finland CheckPoint mentioned that no one really reqest VPN accelerators in our days. There is only several VPN accelerators under maintenance in the whole region. All other customers using generic hardware.

Not many people use or need VPN accelerators, that being the reason CHKP dropped the corrent (?) card from the price list. They are still available and supported, just not OEM'ed anymore.

50 users on a decent Intel or AMD box (Personally I like the Sun boxes) will not be an issue. With the new SKUs (If you are buying new licenses) you get SecureXL (You can add it to existing licenses as well). This give you a major performance increases.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. Much appreciated. That gives me some really good pointers to go away and investigate.

Thanks once again!
