Hi Markus, I am sorry to hear you failed. I know it may not mean much but the fact you came so close should help the next time you take it. At least now you know the format of the questions and may have a better idea which topics you might need to study more on. I took the CCNA back in October and failed it. But I took it again 2 weeks later and passed it. I really hated to fail but it also let me know what I am up against and gave me an idea which topics I was weaker on so I can study them more. I did pass the CCSA in January but it was only a 76%. Just keep studying (especially the topics you did not do so well in) and you should be ok the next time you sit for the exam. Good luck!

I failed the CCNA twice (one time I forgot about my test appt and didn't study, the second time I just missed it by a few questions). Got it on the third time and almost 90%. The CCSA/CCSE tests I passed easily. In May, I'm taking the CISSP. Some of us have a harder time with standardized testing than others. Also, if you're working at the same time (not on the test material) then it can be very difficult to carve out enough time to study. Good luck and just budget your time to study an hour a day for several weeks... BTW: I knew two CCSE+s with CISSP and they were both only mediocre engineers. Similarly, there are some guys out there with no certs that are real wizkids. Don't let yourself be labeled by someone or some org's subjective version of proficiency.

The only topics where I was really bad are SmartDefense and Authentification all the other ones were 75% and above. SmartDefense we don' t use in our company and Authetification is configured well so I hadn' t to do anything there since almost a Year. So I have to learn this 2 topics better and I think I should accomplish this on Monday ;) Thanks for your encuraging words and sorry for my worse English ;)

Alot of what we do at my work relates to smartdefense so I knew those topics pretty well. Not to mention that stuff to me is fun to learn. Authentication is something I had to know for the exam but don't use much at work. As long as you brush up on those 2 I think you will do fine since those are a pretty big part of the exam. I sit for the CCSE on monday so maybe we will both have some good news monday evening. Good luck!

I took the test - even though i probably wasnt entirely ready for it - I failed by quite a long way :( I practiced with bosons which were REALLY easy well the first two exams were anyway. The real exam is absolutely nothing like the bosons - I think I underestimated how hard the exam would be. I'll have to rethink my strategy!

One thing that might help those of you who weren't ready for the test is the study guides. You can find them on p2p networks often. There is one for the CCSA and one for the CCSE (ironically the material they cover overlaps). I'm guessing they still have them for NGX. I only took the NG tests. The other thing you can go by is the list of topics on the website. It's pretty easy to get the CheckPoint FW-1 PDFs(from the website) and read all about each topic. As someone who has already assisted in the process of hiring firewall admins, I would question anyone who isn't able to pass the exam. If you are looking for a job related to FW-1 administration, having the CCSE is a must.
