Default unable to open Gui client

Error Connection cannot be initiated.
NG 54 cannot open GUI client. It is not a case where the user and or IP addresss are not defined in cpconfig. The firewall is still working but I cannot log into it. It is a stand alone firewall running redhat. The last change I can remeber doing is a upgrade_export command. I have not rebooted or done a cpstop/cpstart.

brhutchi,

Can you verify your machine is listed as a GUI client (ie your ip is listed) and that there is a rule allowing CPMI between your machine and Firewall. Also verify you are listed as an Admin. Sorry for looking at the simple things 1st but it's often the best way. If still no joy try an fw unloadlocal and then try and connect using GUI (best to disconnect FW ext interface whilst you do this for obvious reasons). If still no joy try and SSH onto the box if this is not possible it points to a problem with your routing.

Jon

Update
I can SSH to the Firewall and My IP and user name is defined. This is a production Firewall so I have not tried to reboot or cpstop and cpstart.
I can also telnet to the tcp control port.

brhutchi,

as you can ssh / telnet onto the box it appears your routing must be ok. Assuming you are ssh'ng onto the same interface that you are trying to connect to using smartconsole.

Are your versions of smartconsole / fw-1 the same?

All versions of smartconole are the same. I will update this when I reboot the firewall.

Do you mean the version of smartconsole you are using (e.g NG AI R55 HFA02) on your client machine to connect to the firewall management station is the same version (inc HFAs) as the software running on the firewall management station?

Doing a cpstop and cpstart fixed the problem.
