Default Re: Upgrading r55 to r60 to a new server

SecurePlatform is based on RedHat - I think R60 is based on RHEL 3.0.

The big advantage is that your system becomes more like an appliance - you have one CD to install the OS and Check Point. Install is very quick. The system is already locked down fairly tightly. You only need to apply the CP HFAs, you don't need to worry about patching the OS separately.

Backups now backup both CP and OS data, making restore very easy.

Read the SecurePlatform Guide for the differences between normal SPLAT and SPLAT Pro. Basically it's dynamic routing and RADIUS auth for admins.

Yes moving from Win2K is advisable. Assuming you have reasonably standard hardware (e.g. DL380), it will make your life much easier, as you won't have the Windows patching nightmare. Use the upgrade_export/upgrade_import tools, and you can do this easily. Search this forum and other mailing lists for examples on this. Read the Upgrade guide.
