2.6 is already mainstream and the only option on newer hardware to make HCL compliance. If I could still get HP DL380 G4s (p4 Xeon 3.8) for all of my sites, I would not be running 2.6 at any of them, I would continue to run 2.4 until they fix the multitude of issues with 2.6. I love my 2.4 boxes with Intel quad port/1gb PCI-X cards. The 3 sites I have on that platform are stable and performance is fine with 30k+ connections without even running multi-core licenses.
