TBH this was a pain because of patches, etc. You need a special SmartCenter as well or to apply a patch to make it compatible. Fortunately now it's just one flavor again. Regarding UTM, it stands for Unified Threat Management, which is a grand way of saying all-in-one gateway. The idea being, having firewall, IDS/IPS and content security in a single box. So you will usually get: - Firewall & VPN - Anti-virus - IPS - URL filtering - anti-spam Most vendors also pitch anti-spyware, anti-phishing, etc, which AVs and URL filters do anyway. One thing to remember is that, while it's cheaper, easier to manage, etc, it also tends to be less powerful and for instance IPS tends to be a subset of what a "proper" IPS will be. They are great for SMEs and remote branches basically. |
